Depressing things I’ve heard Gen Z kids say

As written by a Gen Z kid

  • I don’t even care anymore
  • How many jobs do you think I can get on a middle school education
  • Fuck the school
  • I’m just going to be homeless when I’m older
  • I’ll never find a job
  • What if I don’t get into college
  • I can’t wait until we go up to the high school and get out of this hell hole
  • What if I’m accidentally outed
  • I’m running on anxiety and spite
  • Presenting gives me anxiety
  • I actually cried over this last night
  • Some days I don’t want to exist at all
  • I’m going to go home and cry
  • I’m going to go bald at 14 from stress
  • Somebody just stab me

Generation Z kids are here, and we are very, very afraid for our futures.

Let me add some I’ve Heard:

•”Please just kill me now”

•”Kill me.” “Want me to ask my mom to run over you.” “Please.” (While waiting in car line”

•”if I just refused to do any of this work would I fail?”

•”Halfway through that exam I gave up and fell asleep.”

•”I’m running on 4 hours of sleep and lots of anxiety!”

•”I mean I don’t wanna die, but please kill me now.”

•”I’m tired.” “Same.” “What’d time you go to bed?” “I didn’t.”

•”I’d rather die than run the mile.”

•”It’s like they want us to fail.”

•”If I took this whole bottle of pills would it kil me?”

•”I don’t even care that I don’t care, and I don’t care that that upsets you.”

•”How much do strippers get paid? Sounds better than living through this hell for 4 more years after graduating high school.”

•”I just wanna sleep forever and never wake up.”

•”I don’t know what I wanna be when I grow up, I’m the only one who’s gonna be homeless.”

•”Hey I just thought you should know, I’m bisexual. But please don’t mention it, I haven’t told my parents yet because I’m afraid they’ll hate me.”

•”I wanna come out and I hate hiding this part of myself, but I’m too young to be kicked out of my house.”

•”Do you hate me now?” (After coming out as gay)

•”Do you still love me” (after coming out as bi)

•”Please shoot me.”

•”If there was a school shooting today I wouldn’t even run.”

•”The only thing keeping me alive is the need to feed my cats when I get home.”

•”Mom’s in a bad mood again today, can I stay over at your house?”

•”I’m sorry.” “For what?” “I don’t even know.”

•”I can’t wear this skirt but (random guy in my class) can literally be shirtless?”

•”where’s your essay?” “I turned it in.” “Well then why can’t I find it?” “Maybe you lost it?” “How disrespectful of you! I need the whole essay and rough draft on my desk by the end of the day.”

and this shit will sound familiar because you hear variants of it everywhere, every day, from almost anyone.

“do you think if i killed myself you guys wouldn’t have to go to math class”

honestly this is so true and it’s really sad

As someone who straddles the line between youngest millennial and oldest millennial-gen-z-cryptid, and a sufferer of diagnosed anxiety and depression, this shit is as relatable as it is painful.

The worst part of all of this, as a gen Z kid, is that we don’t realize how depressing these things are until you think back at them. The call of death is practically the air we breathe it’s so familiar. We can’t handle the school system not because we are idiotic phone-addicted low-willed tweens/teens, but literally because we are the only ones to realize how messed up it is. The fact that most of us aren’t becoming our parents yet are being graded like we are is stupid.

Nobody wants to think of the future. We all just want to sleep, play a sport or instruments, watch the people that make us happy on a screen, and not worry. This is the life of gen Z. This is the life that adults criticize as being lazy.

None of what we say is any more depressing than it is true. And here are a few more things to add to your quote list (please note, this is from Canada where school shootings are not common).

• “why are we doing a bomb drill? Who will bring a bomb to school. And if they really had the determination to bring it to school. This drill is showing them where everyone will be when a bomb threat drill is called.”

• “the more I hear the people around me, the more I understand school shootings”

• “can I please get an extension on this paper? I’ve been sick at home for the past week while everyone else was working” “No. You should have gotten a note from a friend here”

• “she is such a bitch jeez. She can’t even hold herself together at a little criticism and truth” “Daniel is a dude, con’ ” “whatever. She’s a girl in my eyes” -commencing physical harm resulting in con’ being threatened to be shot in the throat with a vivid description of gargling to death- (14 year olds btw)

• “I want to diE. I have 3 hours sleep, 19 projects over due, 1 week till exam, and my highest grade is 93. If I don’t have an 85 GPA or higher my mom is taking away my phone and my camping trip for the summer.”

•"how you feeling" “-growling groan of anguish and defeat-” “That’s a mood”

There’s tons more but most are Taped away because I’d rather not think of school.
