three–rings:

You know, as someone who’s seen this all before, I am really bothered by all the people turning to twitter and Instagram as their new fandom homes.  You guys DO realize those corporations will ban you too, just as soon as they notice your presence, right?  (Or are forced to notice.)

For profit companies are not going to give fandom a safe home. Ever.  Instagram is owned by Facebook for fuck’s sake.  The original nipple-banners.

If you want a place to be, look to fandom itself.  Look to AO3 and Dreamwidth.  Maybe pillowfort, though I don’t Know Them.  And maybe fandom needs to make the next home themselves, the way we did with AO3.

But don’t trust another corporate hellsite not to arbitrarily decide whether to allow you or not.  Tumblr flourished BECAUSE it was the Wild West and literally anything was ok.  I mean, that also created a ton of problems, but fandom thrived because they were ignored and left to get on with their thing.  Until suddenly, oops, lawless internet isn’t profitable.  In the game of profit versus fandom, fandom ALWAYS loses.  Learn from our collective history.
