Your art has value on its own. Your art is worthy. It can feel awful and crushing when it’s not making you as much money as you’d like or as you need, but that’s not a reflection of you as a person. It’s not even a reflection of your skill.
Surviving on an artist’s income (or a musician’s, or a writer’s, or…) is really fucking hard. The amount of money you make off your creations is not indicative of your value as a person or as an artist.
Stay strong. I love you.
OP, I love your intent, but as a queer artist who’s gotta cover rent and bills for a family of four this month on top of the holidays? The encouragement is great, but what I need isn’t the likes or the kind words. I need reblogs, shares to other platforms, and sales. In BULK. If you wanna help with any of those, there’s a ton of posts in my feed showing all my leatherwork from Tormented Artifacts (not gonna put a link on here because of what tumblr’s doing to linked posts lately) that could use boosting, sharing, or y’know, clicking links and purchasing stuff.
Kind words are awesome. Sadly, my landlord will not take them in lieu of payment.
God forbid that I, a queer artist who also has to cover rent and bills for a family of four, try to put some positivity into a universe that tells me my art is worthless because I don’t always make enough to cover my bills.
I ALSO need reblogs, shares, and sales.
Know what else, though? I also need encouragement from time to time because I live in a capitalist hellscape that beats down my desire and spoons to create, and seeing positive posts cross my feed helps me not feel like throwing up my hands and deleting all my WiPs.
You’re allowed to just scroll past posts that don’t work for you, you know. You can even download a handy extension through xkit to block them.
I am also a struggling queer artist, and OP is exactly right and I love them for it, and I dunno why you wanted to come up in here and assume shit about people and take a shit all over Ren’s post when you coulda just kept your mouth shut
